So I wanted to do something like this for a very long time to keep myself accountable & pen my thoughts on what I did right & wrong as I review my portfolio every month. The main intention for doing this is – I am a forgetful person. Having a blog like this reminds me of how much I need to push forward vs laying back for a moment to appreciate the accomplishment that I have achieve (self boosting ego initiative….haha).
But most importantly is that, I do hope, you as a reader can benefit from my sharing & learn to improve on your personal finance & investing knowledge, every month, of the way. So here goes……
As an intro, HIDDEN GEM System (HGS) is an investment hack that we innovated last year in the MCO 1.0 lockdown (April 2020). You can watch the intro video HERE to know all about it. At that point of time, my stock investment was very very bad. I am going to share with you here, very transparently , how bad it was. (You can click HERE to read how it all began in May 2020)
Hence that is why you can see there are 2 portfolios here
So as you can see, I started this update on Feb 2021 (comparing with Jan 2021) which I made some investment fine tuning from my mentors & got quite a phenomenal result. Do follow this site, as I will share month by month from April 2020 to Jan 2021, to catch you up to speed.
Then you can ride the roller coaster wave with me on how I felt when I realize my stock portfolio (like everyone) has taken a beating when the market crash on 18 March 2020 (when Prime Minister announce in Malaysia MCO 1.0 – complete lockdown to counter the pandemic of COVID – 19).
Here are the highlights
My biggest learning this month was that, it takes every stock in my overall portfolio stocks to grow in unison, to have that tremendous growth that I was looking for. Although I am happy, DNEX caught fire and hit a high of 400%, but it takes more than 1 stock to really grow.
My observation during this BULL run for DNEX, my emotions was very fickle. The urge to sell came strongly as I wanted to take profit. At the same time, I kept wondering as to how to double my paper profit in DNEX OR how to make more $$$ as I started investing very small amount last year. Sort of a bit regret, that I didn’t put in more. Guess when the stock is on the BULL RUN, every investor goes thru the same feeling as well. Asking the question, “Why didn’t I put in more” . Haha.
But when the stock makes losses, the other question will come in. Why did I put in so much to this S***** stock? So in the end, I have to keep reminding myself to be happy with the decision I made that got me this result. And to learn from this ‘GOOD’ experience to double or triple my earnings in my next investment.
Another fine tuning I did and notice was in December 2020, I notice my entire portfolio consisted 80% Mid cap stocks vs 20% Big Cap stocks. When I took the time to compile all my stocks into a dashboard, I finally realize my portfolio was very volatile (because of the 80% stocks are Mid Cap) and my entire portfolio was appreciating much, even though I had a few stocks having 15- 20% appreciation in 3-4 months ( which was great and awesome for me). So finally when I switch in Jan 2021 to 50% Mid Cap & 50% Big Cap stocks, my entire portfolio was more stable and that’s how I got this growth in Feb 2021.
Last but not least, I wanted to share this portfolio update month on month basis, because I wanted to see how effective this HGS investment hack is. After 10 months, I am convince & wanted to benefit to as many reader as possible. I couldn’t have done this value investing exercise and monitor stocks on a month to month basis, if I didn’t outsource 2 months of value investing analysis work to Hidden GEM system CHEAT SHEET. Don’t know what I mean? Test drive HERE.
