Does money grow on trees? 

Hi, my name is Ka Hoe and I’m the founder of J Advisory. Today I’m back with another famous one liner and we all know this answer to this question right? No, we can’t grow money on trees, but I just want to share with you. I think how this whole famous one liner came out is that back when we were young, you know how we would normally sees you know some cousin and sibling running up to their parents asking for some money to buy candy and the parent always say like, “Do I look like somebody that can grow money on trees”? Then fifty percent or half of the siblings or cousins will be thinking like, really you can actually grow money on trees and then the other half will be thinking like, of course you can’t grow money on trees right. But I guess what I’m trying to share with you here is that I’m going to play a little devil’s advocate for this particular video. So to a certain extent right if you understand what money is you technically can grow it right? 

Let me share with you what I mean

So if you have done farming before right back in those days when the early early age, some of them will be actually planting their vegetable some will be actually planting their fruits and what they would do those days is that when you have harvest it you basically bring your vegetable to actually barter with me for the fruits, right? And you came to a point when it was very hard to barter because especially if I were to go to market with my vegetables, I wanted to barter 200 grams of beef or beef meat. The other person who has a cow can’t really cut out 200 grams of the cow while it’s still alive and give me just for the vegetables. 

This is how money was invented because it was meant to facilitate transactions easier

So now if you think about it, after the whole money was created it’s really about a storage for all our economic value and effort, blood, sweat and tears into that particular thing and when you come to think about it, isn’t that growing money in the form of let’s say for example a tree or not tree a vegetable or fruit, right? Because technically if you’ve done farming before you and I know it is not that simple where you can just throw in some seeds put some water and don’t let the sunshine and the thing will grow up right you literally need to know that after you put in the seed. You have to have enough sunlight, you can’t have too much water or too little water and I’ve seen some people actually talking to their plants to sort of nurture them. 

So I guess when this whole famous line came up it’s really to tell you about you’ve got to put in an effort to really harvest your fruits or get your rewards right? It’s really not about just getting things easy without doing anything. I think this is really the gist of what it means about this famous one liner.
