Are Chinese better in finance because we gamble during Chinese New Year? Hi my name is Ka Hoe and I’m the founder J Advisory and today I’m back with a Chinese New Year special. Basically what I did was I went to my community and asked them, you know what are the Chinese New Year money misconception that you guys want me to answer right, and these are the top three that I’ve gotten and today’s topic.
We are talking about, or somebody was asking la you know, really is Chinese really better in finance because they gamble a lot in Chinese New Year, so what do you guys think, right? For me, I personally think so because when you gamble, you actually have 2 benefit. Of course if you win then definitely there is a direct benefit (la), but whether, if you lose, the indirect benefit is, you are practicing your calculating skills right.
So, because gambling is a fun game, so generally, we go on to actually play the game without realizing that we’re actually inculcating this habit or skill of us to count money right. And, of course, I’m not here to encourage gambling right but I guess, the fact here is that, with the 21st century, and in the recent Chinese New Year, where everybody is locked down in the pandemic right, I felt that if you use gambling as a game to unite the family, you know, bring people together.
Because those days when we started gambling during my age we basically gamble with our siblings or friends right, and right now with all the technology, the gadgets, I am sure, most of us feel the same way that our kids rather play with the handphone, the gadgets or computer rather than actually spend time together.
So what I did during this Chinese New Year was that I brought everybody together especially my kids. And we just play a game of blackjack or what we call ‘Niu’ or the direct translation is ‘COW’, which is a game right. So we basically play very small (la) you know, 10 cents, 20 cents and the maximum was like RM 1 or RM 2 just for them to get together.
Get their eyes off the gadgets and for the family, to actually spend time together, I think that is actually a very good way of using this gambling as a family activity and also improving our money calculating skills right. So tell me in the comments section you know, do agree, as using gambling as an activity or game. Of course I know that not all, especially our Malay friends, gambling is actually haram right.
So, but let me know, if you are just using it as a game all right, um and also how much do you actually really gamble? Do you go all out or do you play like you how we use to play 10 cents, 20 cents? I’ll see you in the next video where I’m going to share with you 2 more Chinese New Year money misconception.
